چکیده

The simulation of realistic networks is an important aspect in the development of new protocols or algorithms. We have considered – to the author’s knowledge for the first time – the problem of calibrating the total number and the allocation of HTTP traffic sources in a simulation model of a TCP/IP network with a target matrix of traffic flow intensities. The configuration of a large simulation model is rather complex: the total number of sources needs to be adjusted as well as the number of sources per flow. A simple estimate of the average rate per HTTP/TCP source is derived for calculating the total number of required sources. The authors propose a new method for solving the above mentioned problem in two or more steps: a simple estimation for the source rate and the source distribution over all flows is derived, which is used for a first pilot simulation. Successive simulations use the measurements of the respective previous simulation to minimize the difference between given and achieved traffic matrix. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated with two rather complex simulation scenarios: the parking-lot and the B-WiN model. The simulation results show the fast convergence of the method despite larger deviations from the given traffic matrix in the first pilot run.

Allocation of HTTP/TCP Sources for Traffic Generation in Large Network Simulations

The simulation of models from real existing networks where measurements of the traffic exist are challenging: One major concern is the establishment of the measured traffic intensities with the simulation model with HTTP/TCP sources. The steady state formulas for the TCP throughput are not applicable for short-time connections that are characteristic for WWW traffic. We have addressed this prob...

Internet Traffic Generation for Large Simulations Scenarios with a Target Traffic Matrix

The simulation of realistic networks is an important aspect in the development of new protocols or algorithms for communication networks. The traditional approach for such a simulation is to connect a certain amount of sources to network nodes and to measure the link load, end-to-end delay etc. in the simulation in order to evaluate the performance of the network. Network providers have a diffe...

Replacing HTTP-TCP Traffic Sources with Open-Loop UDP Traffic Sources

The inclusion of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is necessary for the realistic simulation of data networks. However, the operation of HTTP-TCP sources puts a heavy tax on the simulations leading to two major scalability problems: the computing resources required by each source put a limit on the total number of sources that can be simulated, and the number of events generated by every simu...

New geometry for TCP: severe plastic deformation of tubes

Since tubes are widely used for different industrial applications, processing of tubes by the Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) method has been the target of different attempts. Among these attempts, development of SPD processes for tubes based on Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) has been more successful. As an illustration, Tube Channel Pressing (TCP) has been presented as an attractive SP...
